Matriculation
Academics
Matriculation is one of the most meaningful parts of our work at St. James’. The purpose of growing strong academic foundations is to provide choice for our students regarding middle school and beyond. Matriculation is a rich period of discernment and reflection over the fall as we work together to identify the best middle-high school experience for each child. It is a very important moment, as these choices inform a child’s journey through the end of high school. Each year, over half of St. James’ graduates receive offers from Harvard-Westlake, Campbell Hall, and Marlborough.
St. James’ enjoys a half century track record of placing our graduates in the best schools throughout Los Angeles and we look forward to coaching your family through the process of application and matriculation.
Celebrate endings — for they precede new beginnings.

Our Matriculation Process
Throughout the matriculation process, families have the opportunity to meet personally with our Head of School and Assistant Head of School to begin to identify choice schools. Admission Directors at schools of interest are invited to lunches to meet with our sixth graders and their families to provide an overview of their programs. Students visit schools of interest to tour, and they participate in an interview or group activity at each.
Applications are submitted by families and recommendations and letters of support written by our Head of School, Assistant Head of School and the sixth grade team including our sixth grade teachers, math strategist, and writing strategist.
In conversations with Admission Directors, we learned that St. James’ students are highly sought after for their academics, robust extracurricular interests and talents in music, art, dance, theater and athletics, as well as their strong commitment to community service.
Congratulations to an incredibly talented and accomplished group of sixth graders!
